Bike for Bibles fundraising for Literacy Projects has just received recognition as a result of UNESCO granting Bible Societies “consultative status” with the UN agency.

The United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organisation (UNESCO) has given United Bible Societies (UBS), and national Bible Societies under this banner – including Bible Society Australia – consultative status with the UN agency.
“As an official partner of UNESCO, UBS is now entitled to participate in its meetings by invitation… UNECSO’s recognition of UBS’s competence in literacy work means that the Bible Societies will also be able to participate in the planning and execution of UNESCO’s literacy programmes,” said the most recent United Bible Societies newsletter.

One of the contributing strengths of UBS that assisted in gaining UNESCO recognition is believed to be the wide international reach of the Bible Society movement.

You can organise your own ride with friends and people from your church during the months of April, May and June, and make a Tax Deductible Donation before the end of the financial year.

You might do short ride to the local coffee shop or a long weekend tour, or you might not even do a ride at all…

The main point is to make a donation before 30th June and receive a receipt for your tax deduction in time for this year’s tax return.

If you want to, you can register yourself at Towards the Goal website, and make a donation for fundraising under your own name.

Alternately, you can sponsor someone already registered on the Towards the Goal website under the End of Tax Year Ride.

Either way, you can enter your credit card and email address and instantly receive a receipt for your donation.

Please also forward this information onto your friends and people from church so that they too can make a donation and receive a tax deduction.

Please remember to take some photos and send us your story for the Bike for Bibles blog and Facebook page.

COMMENTS:

I’m really excited about this ride. I drove the route in January, and can advise that it passes through some beautiful country. The climbs are long and challenging and will require focussed training, but they aren’t ridiculous. I think being able to back up each day is where some of the challenge will be, and training for this aspect of the ride will be rewarded.

Each day is about half a Tour de France mountain stage.
