Today, Saturday 22nd August has been a ‘rest day’, but for many of the team, it has been a day of getting ready for the week to follow.
He notes: This will probably be the last blog entry until the 29th August (Ceduna) as I do not anticipate being able to get internet access until then. I know there is internet access at Border Village (the WA/SA border ‘town’) but it is via an internet café type situation and I don’t know if I can make that do what I want it to do! Maybe! I do intend to keep producing an account of each day’s events so it will be available in due course – you will just have to be patient!

Today is the first rest day. Most people have pottered about doing things like re-lubing bike chains (definitely needed after riding in the rain yesterday), cleaning bikes, doing laundry and other housekeeping tasks. (Laundry is done at a local caravan park using their laundry facilities.)

Day 5 saw us leave the Great Eastern Highway and head south on the Coolgardie-Esperance Highway for about 170km to Norseman. It rained a lot the night before and in the morning the sky was completely gray and it was drizzling. O and it was 9 degrees which was cold when taken along with the rain.

Didn’t take any pictures today as I didn’t want a camera getting wet in my back pocket.
From Gary’s Blog Entry: Day 5 – Coolgardie to Norseman
Another big day – 167 kms – and it started with rain, which combined with the chill factor as we rode, made it bitterly cold. It was hard riding, and our pace was slow. I felt this was going to be a bad day. By the time we stopped for morning tea after about 2 hours, we were all soaked and chilled to tne bone. Some of us changed our tops, gloves etc, and after a hot cuppa soup, bread and nutella, we headed off.

Today, Friday 21st August got off to a miserable start. Light rain fell for much of the night and continued until lunch time.

What a difference a tail wind makes! We did the 186 kms at an average of over 28 kms/hour, which is good taking into consideration the mixed ability of the riders in the team. We left Southern Cross at 7.15 am and arrived in Coolgardie at about 4 pm. This included a stop for morning tea and lunch, plus a ‘pit stop’ about every 25 kms.
