8:00am, 9 December 1984: A team of riders is set out from Sydney for Melbourne – 900kms away. They aim to raise $3,000 for the Bible Society’s “New Literacy Program”, supplying primary school children in Kalimantan, Indonesia, with scripture portions.

(l. to r.) Bob Forrest, Wayne McCamley, David Forrest, John Holland – acting as “captain” for blind cyclist John Ansell. Bob, Wayne and David completed the ride to Melbourne, while John Holland and John Ansell rode their tandem to Mittagong, “to give some encouragement to the others”.
